Now the second backup to this drive has been at 72.5 percent done, 291.2 mb copied for two hours. I followed the suggestion made here and reformatted my external backup disk and eventually the first backup completed. Another time it ran for 24 hours and never completed. sometimes if I let it run overnight it completes. Time Machine gets stuck partway through the backup process and crawls to a halt. More than one device, more than one backup methodology. Time Machine troubleshooting on Mac - Apple Supportģ-2-1 Backup Strategy: three copies of your data, two different methods, and one offsite. The resolve would be to replace the drive. If any of these message appear repeatedly -the Time Machine drive is operating in a state of failure. "Time Machine has completed a new backup for you" If the issue continues, a Time Machine that will not complete is one indication of a failing drive I would let it run and see if it will finish. What could be the problem? (FWIW, last night I reset backups to run daily instead of hourly.) Thanks in advance! I started another backup last night, now, about 14 hours later, it's stuck at 82% complete (7.00GB copied). Yesterday I started running a Time Machine backup that got to 64% complete, then was stuck for hours I guess I'll try to write Google Support, maybe they can work something out.I just upgraded to Sonoma 14.0 in the last couple days. I even tried putting all photos in a single album (on the web version) hoping that, by opening it on Android, it would trigger restoring all the backed-up photos. And from then on I only see random photos (like one for every album/date) although there are many other photos that should be restored. What I can add more: I see many recent photos being synced in the app all the way back to about 2019. So, it looks like it's an issue combined between most recent app version and backed up data in Google Drive. The result: the same problem being stuck on "getting ready to backup". I can confirm that if I use a different account (that doesn't have photos/videos backed up on Google Drive) it works fine.Īs I still had the former Pixel 5, I decided to test this situation (it was working fine to backup photos), so I erased the app data and reconnected my account. I also tried everything I could think of (or read about): clear cache, clear data and reconnect the account, uninstall app updates, enter recovery mode, even restored the phone to factory defaults for once (I initially transferred all data from my former Pixel 5 via cable, afterward I tried to restore from Google Drive backup, but the Google Photos app was stuck with the same issue). I started using a Pixel 6 a few weeks ago and I encounter a similar issue: "getting ready to backup" for weeks. My experience is the same, dated more recently.
